Science is a value-laden and rule-based activity. Academics and professionals have to obey ethical codes and standards of good scientific practice. To be successful in science one has to know how to get funding for research projects, how to launch a paper in a high-ranking scientific journal, and whether to publish it in an open access or a subscription journal. In this workshop we will learn how science works and on which rules it is based. We will examine examples and case studies of moral dilemmas in science, focussing on such topics as science policy, fraud in science, freedom of research, and publication ethics.
